Tanvi Karpate

Tanvi Karpate is from India. She completed her B.Sc. with Physics Honours from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai in the year 2015. Following which, she graduated summa cum laude in M.Sc. Photonics in 2017 from the Department of Atomic and Molecular Physics, Manipal University, India. As a part of a summer fellowship during M.Sc, Tanvi worked on observing spectral narrowing in gases using ultrashort femtosecond pulses (100 fs, 40 fs, and 10 fs). During this project, which was conducted at the premier research institute of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, India, she got hands-on experience in dealing with Ti:Sapphire laser, pulse compression techniques, supercontinuum generation, pulse measurement techniques and also a basic learning of a carrier envelope phase (CEP) laser.

For her master's thesis, Tanvi worked on Optical metrology and Hyperspectral Imaging using LEDs through NTU-India Connect Fellowship at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Along with the research, she was also a part of a startup, Fun With Optics, that aims at making educational kits for Optics.

Tanvi recognizes the strong need to bring complex science out of labs to the masses and try to accomplish this by contributing to science communication by the means of blogs, magazines and by tutoring. Watch this video for more information about my project.
